Subject: RE: Oxygen Acetylene Tanks

Faunsdale, AL
That’s not out of line for a large oxygen (250 cf?) and an acetylene (131 cf) One local supplier had a 5 year lease for $300 for each large cylinder so about half what Airgas has gotten up to. But they recently went to an annual lease and are within $10 of Airgas. I would have had to make a special trip to swap tanks with them so $20 a year isn’t worth it to me.

Hate to get jacked around but haven’t come up with an option other than owning smaller tanks. I have several but have been using them as spares for when the large tanks run out in the middle of something.

I am also using propane as much as possible. Bought a large rosebud for propane a while back and really like it. I haven’t had an acetylene rosebud that wasn’t constantly popping once it got hot in a couple decades. It may be my torch and anti flashback cartridges but it works great with propane and I know I cannot pull enough acetylene out of one of the small tanks anyway.

Plasma cutters are getting cheaper and cheaper but I haven’t found one to replace a torch for much of what I do. Am considering an arc gouging rig as well just for the control compared to the torch.
