Fontanelle, IA | I just can’t see lots and lots of Texas feeder cattle making it very far north while passing Amarillo /TX feeding triangle, feedlots in western and Central KS and then taking a “T” in the road to pass the feedlots of Nebraska or Colorado.
The higher risk feeder cattle from the southeast seem to make it this way provided guys “locally” in western Iowa can get them bought significantly back the money from the local cattle. I know of a few trainwrecks last year (august/early September) of those high risk “deals” from the SE that stung some local guys really, really hard.
1400 miles for Amarillo feeders to reach Canadian finishing yards seems pretty far fetched. If we’re concerned about Montana feeders not being “able” to be finished in Canada with the excess feeding capacity that Canadian lots have expanded into, then I’m venturing to guess that some of those “influential” Canadian feedlot owners will get some sort of state/zone waiver so they can feed US feeders….. too much provincial money at stake.
That, or just hire the Chinese triads and they’ll figure out a way to “launder” US feeders across into Canada. | |
