| Ice makers are the most likely piece of equipment to break down on this farm, and of people I know as well. Parents have had numerous Ice maker repairs made over the years. One they have now they had 2 different repairmen come out, neither could keep it running.
When we bought our last fridge, its a Whirlpool and it had 2 ice makers, one in the door, one in the bottom freezer. I never buy extended warrenties on anything, but i did on this because of the ice makers.'
Weve had the fridge 4 years, and had the ice makers worked on 3 different times. Both have been replaced at least once. Iam waiting to get one replaced this week. this one the heater quit on. They have a heater that heats the unit so all the ice will fall out. That makes sense after all the years of dumping manual ice trays and having to run water over them to get the ice to release out of the tray.
All of this for "free". I know the repairs would be much more than the warrenty cost.
My parents bought a table top model for $150 from walmart to make ice, not as handy, but if it dies they will just buy another one
