Subject: Disappointed with my PP 20/20 Setup

Kalona, IA

I bought a CIH 1200 PT several yrs ago that was all setup with the Precision Planting Electric drives and Delta Force. It has been maintained very well and I don't see any physical reason that I don't see better spacing etc.

1: My overall in row spacing isn't any better then what my CIH 950 planter with some mods did. I have more doubles and skips then I should have. What is the proper Vac. reading for these planters and setup? I usually set it at 20. I don't have any mods that could drag the seed. I did think that the Rebounders on my Cyclo planter helped but the plastic Furrow "Seed Dragger's" hurt on the Air planter, so I'm running stock on this planter.

2: The Gen 2 Monitor is CONSTANTLY "talking" and telling me that I have a "chance". I go back and check in the dirt and it seems OK and the seed empties out fairly uniformly in the seed boxes. Is it time for new seed sensors? Some rows are generally right on with all the readings and run green on the screen where as some rows are more often "off" . Several rows are always low in Pop readout but in actuality look OK when the crop emerges. It cries "wolf" so much I start to ignore it. It seems some seed brands or sizes or treatments cause better or worse readings.

3: Soybeans is really bad on the readings on the same rows that in corn that causes alarms. The seed boxes empty pretty much the same time so I think a LOT of the problems is with the sensors. I have tried brushing out the seed tube and cleaning connections without much success. When I tried 1.5 mph most of the readings look pretty good and in the "green", so that tells me a lot of my issues are probably the sensors not being able to get good detection at 5 mph. Is there a better sensor system available?

4: I had 2 row SRM modules go bad this yr. They were both working when quitting 1 day and the next day NOT even tho the red blinking light was appearing as if it was OK. That was on several days apart. New modules fixed the failure's.

5: when hoeing my beans yesterday my just emerged beans looked better in some rows than in others rows that were not fully emerged as well. I keep getting erratic readings on my Delta Force which also makes me wonder at my actual accuracy. I tried purging it about a doz times before starting this spring but rows 1, 8, & 12 never fully raised up when running tests.

6: To top it all, when I look at my neighbors corn stand with his old JD 7000 with PP meters, he has a picket fence stand and mine doesn't look any better or as good as what my old Cyclo air planter used to. Not only that, but I can spend hrs trying to get my modernized planter going when I could've done quite a few acres with a well maintained simple mechanical planter!

Frustrating!!!
