Pittsburg, Kansas | It is funny how cleanliness needs have changed.
If my wife doesn't shower every morning, she is just beside herself until she does (I'm not complaining). In her and my grandparents youth days, a bath once a week was considered normal and any more was luxury.
I remember a lot of folks in our area hauled water and bought it by the thousand gallon tank. Water was conserved. I had an uncle who made nearly his entire living with a two ton Ford truck hauling miscellaneous. Probably half his mileage and income was hauling water in a tank he slid onto the bed and dumped water into people's cistern. This was in the early to mid 60's. He also owned and farmed an 80 with an 8N Ford.
We as a family were fortunate in that we had a good shallow hand dug well with electric pump and were hardly ever short unless in extreme drought.
