Subject: RE: Cold cut chop saw or quality bandsaw for shop

I’ve got a 7x12 wet cut bandsaws, a couple of portable bandsaws, and a 14” delta vertical that I converted to steel cutting with about 20:1 reduction. That’s about all I need, I do have a Milwaukee chop saw, it gives me square portable cuts, but I use it really only for hardened material.

The 7x12 really needs better wheels, I built a mobile base for it . I never have any problem with cutting fluid. I use Rustlick, and have a pump that goes on the bottle, so I fill a 2L bottle with warm water, squirt Rustlick and give it a quick shake. I use it for the mag drill, occasionally on the drill press or lathe.

A cold saw might be more attractive if I didn’t cut 10” channel, stacked 3/8” and 1/4 angle, and various flatbar.

I use a starrett variable pitch blade, and allways lower the blade to contact myself. I’ve worn out 3 blades, and trashed one by letting someone else use it. I have a fine tooth blade but have yet to need it, cutting down to 1/8” with the variable pitch.
