There's a bigger story that nobody knows. The funds do not get that long for no good reason or a hunch of bad weather or whatever. They thought they had some inside information on a China deal to buy a lot of grain is my guess. It didn't happen for one reason or another, the algos got spooked and created a huge exit. It's a good study to see what fund movement does to the market, how far long/short funds can swing the market. Also, China could have sniffed it out and decided to teach the funds a lesson. It would be nothing at all for China to create market pressure to make the algos bail. The entire US crop of corn and soy is just a little over 100 billion, that is chump change for a large country to play the market.
