Grandpa used to run a cultipacker on beans to help break crust or even after they were up a bit. Heck he even ran it over corn that was several inches tall. Claimed it toughened it up. I never ran one over corn but have over beans a couple times many years ago. Rotary hoed a bunch in conventional till but seemed like you had a narrow window where it was barely solid enough to get on the ground but shortly after it was already too hard to do much good. Plus had to deal with wet spots that you could not make it through.
