Michigan
Before I got a smooth roller a few years ago, I used an Unverferth Rolling Harrow II to knock corn stalks down in notill beans. I'm assuming you're in tillage? If the beans aren't sprouted yet, I don't think you'll do any damage. I would think the crowsfoot would be safer than that. I've never used a packer, but I think if I was in full tillage I'd rather have a packer than a roller. I can't imagine a packer pushing rocks down like a big roller though. In 2019 I seeded one of my many PP fields to alfalfa. I worked it up nice, picked a few rocks, drilled it, and rolled it. Then the monsoon returned and turned it into a washboard. I think a cultipacker would have given it some texture to slow the water compared to the smooth roller.
