North Central Indiana | You didn’t have to stop the planter. Get the phone out and call and sell cash price for June while you’re planting in May and the board is up. At least “here” the basis was steady for forward months. Guys like to see some carry if they’re going to lock in cash delivery for a month or 2 out. That’s not a great plan as we get into the summer. Sorry you missed out, it sounds like you’re an all cash guy with no current cash flow needs. Good for you. Sit on it.
Never have completely understood the mindset of not being able to haul during plating season myself. Some of the best opportunities come along when they have to have corn while planters are running. May not be super appealing but tractors have lights. Plant late and haul a few while they’re open to gain that premium. Burn the candle at both ends for a week maybe. We make it up by not burning the candle from either end in the dog days of summer and dead of winter | |
