Subject: RE: Is the fat lady singing?

NW Iowa
I moved 140K of new and old the last 3 months.
Sold some $3.92 to e plant last fall to core bins.
I can store 100% of my crop if needed.
Stored till E plant was $4.35 and started selling
on the way up to $4.55 cash
Swept the bins out a $4.35 on the way down last week.
88K of old crop gone this spring
50K of new crop $4.65-$4.85 sold for oct and dec
I started using the E plants online portal last dec to put sales offers in and
let them hit targets. If targets not hit by certain time, i lower the targets.
I used to try and hit the highs and that was 50% at best.
I started paying attention to seasonals and patterns.
Realizing they move around and need to be flexible
My advice is,
Take the emotion out and start getting your sales offers out there.
Be realist on your numbers. Marketing is a challenge to everyone.
But passing on profit because you are scared of missing the high is a sure way to sell at a low.
I have learned you can get paralyzed on a 2 cent down day and not make a sale and it keeps going down.
Get within 5 cents and make a sale.

Edit- I knew what corn was last fall, i know that $3.92 vs $4.65 out of the field with last yrs inputs is a no brainer starting point.
I know every input cost in my head. I won't start selling at a break even, but if there is good gravy i will start in.
Just because you work hard and farm does not guarantee you a profit or a living. I used to think that way 25 yrs ago...
If i let some go and it goes up i'm happy, i sell more. I don't look back at what i sold. I was a good sale that day and i made money.
Every sale i make i hope i'm wrong and it keeps going up.
One last thing, if you put it in the bin, you better get another 20 cents for handling it twice and everything involved.
