I like stalks way better. I’m bedding outside in mud. I mow my stalks with a disk mower to leave as many long stems as possible. Seems to keep the bed pack from “sinking” into the mud better. Here we don’t have to worry about stalks breaking down. Warmer temperatures and lots of moisture seems to take care of that for us.
