SW Wisconsin
What to plant?
Corn- as long as insurance and government handouts continue to facilitate it.
I still have some 2024 corn and most of 2025 corn hoping for something to raise the price.
My government keeps sending me money that enables me to keep it and still plant another crop.
Cattle - Yes. At 66 years of age I am (reluctantly) raising a brooder herd: Fencing off some less productive crop land and seeding some more hay ground.
It is more labor, management and time but there is (currently) a real profit to be made.
Your right that "the market just doesnt care care unless we have a major crop problem". The only problem they really care about is spelled D R O U G H T.
We do have "too much corn" or the end users would be bidding it higher to ensure they have what they need.
Many here have pondered what corn prices would be without the renewable fuels standard of 2005.
