Subject: RE: K31 crop

Monett Missouri
Crop looks average this year in my neighborhood. My family has been cutting ky31 since the 70’s that I know of. Some years good some years not so good. We only cut new stands now. Stands are rotated in with corn beans wheat. No pasture clipping for us anymore. Yields can reach 1000# acre if the stars align. Average more like 5-600 year in and year out. We do manage our stands with fertilizer and chemical programs to maximize yield and cleanliness. We swath and pickup windrows generally. I did purchase a stripper head last year to try and recover some badly lodged seed. Results weren’t that good. Hay is cut right after seed harvest. Fall haying or grazing is dependent on rain. Seed is a good fit with cattle and adds another cash crop to the income stream. Price isn’t great with input cost but that’s what everything is like in agriculture. Every year they say “ Oregon is gonna have a big crop so we can’t pay much”. Maybe 50 cents a pound this year? I really haven’t heard. Swathers are ready may be swathing by the end of the week. A bit early this year.
