I have run with zero crop insurance me entire farming career except one season. They lied an after threatened lawsuit my premium was returned, but they did not pay the claim.Running without insurance is often done with diverse operations as ours. When one crop fails the next helps with the slack. There is only one thing we get from the feds and that is a bill.We run way less acres than midwest growers but our gross is way beyond .It cannot be done everywhere due to population and location but there are any diverse growers I know and visit in the midwest. The intent of gov subsidy is the same reason that we have excess grains sent to fuel use.One screw up and a starving population ,,the USA would end,,those simple $$ sent to keep excess feed stocks is a small cost to maintain the best food supply in the world..This is the main reason we are the most powerful nation on earth. It is not the battleships. If you cut out all the non ag items in the ag budget ,,the USA has the farmers growing at a real bargain.,,,LOSt ValleY the OP is off his RockER.

You are one of the few on here that truly grows ‘food’, and like you said, farm less and gross more per acre than most others on here. Provide a premium product that can be on someone’s dinner plate later that day, and you can price it where you want.
