mercertucky - 5/30/2026 21:00 That's pretty much every cop out there.

FIFY

I wouldn't say its every "cop" out there but its definitely every State Patrol I've ever met regardless of what state.

Most of the local guys (town cops and county deputies) have to live in the area that they work and they likely don't want the entire community to hate them.   I definitely think that helps keep the power trips in check.    They certainly don't act like the state patrol guys do.

I have more memories of absurdity from small town officers. But that's possibly because of growing up in a family running battered economy cars that "fit the profile" of someone they can likely cite for no insurance or DUI.

Best was my mother being stopped because she was "squeeling her tires taking off from a stop sign." This was while driving a Diesel VW Rabbit. I drove those cars in HS and college and if you wind the motor up to redline and dump the clutch you can sometimes get a little squeak but that is about it.
