Far as cattle, was it a big money maker like corn and beans no.. but there was enough profit to keep it going. No one wants to do the labor when you can set an AB line and take insurance to guarantee your profit. All you listed was excuses…
You’re right in that statement.. there is no one to take over because government subsidies have ruined agriculture. Each generation the government got involved and the risk grew yet the margin disappeared. No one wants to admit it because they take the money. The next generation doesn’t have a future… it will be corporate farming because you choose to give up freedom for government money… you choose to give up freedom so you can set an AB line… now mother Deere collects all your information from tillage prescriptions to planting to harvest… a few more years of AI and autonomy and they won’t need you…
