North East Wimmera district of Victoria. | The 'Mens Shed' I attend has a planer that is atop quality wood planing machine - the make does not matter here because I am in Australia! But there is a BIG notice on the machine to check any timber for metal before using it, as metal will cause the gouge mentioned above. ruins a very expensive set of cutters. My other comment is that I am sure our machine has no facility to re-align the cutters so that the gouge mark can be eliminated by offsetting offending cutters. Because of the precise nature of the whole cutter assembly, each cutter [I am almost 100% sure] locks into its slot on the cutter drum. The finished surface is absolutely flat, and I have used our machine to process pieces to then glue together to make cutting boards for kitchenware gifts.
Just at our Mens Shed.
The wood planer there is a Carba-Tec.
The cutters can be rotated in three steps. Giving a 'new' cutting face
But they cannot be 're-positioned' as was suggested to eliminate the gouge.
