You`re describing why "it" can`t be fixed, though from a different (the socialist apologist) tangent. See, a lot of this farm money sent during Trump was approved during the Biden administration. Then the whole over reaction to a mild flu (aka COVID) was expensive to have fun freaking out about. Money (not just to farmers) had to be sent out to keep from everybody going broke from a man made hysteria.

Trump comes along wanting to wean us off dependency on foreign slave produced trinkets (I think admirable goal) and until that is achieved it`s going to be hard on businesses. it comes down to send money out or preside over "record bankruptcies!!!". Politicians don`t like negative headlines, so to send out borrowed government money there isn`t current pain for making a tough decision... problem is feeling pain is sort of in the definition of a tough decision.. But no one wants that and any pain more than a paper cut, the voters will "throw the bums out!".

Actually farmers don`t want the government checks, the banks and those who "farm the farmers" lobby for the aid. But, farming is competitive and as an individual you gotta take the $100/ sugar money or when the ol` Hicks place comes up for sale or rent, you won`t have the money to bid on it.

It`s like one of my favorite stories about a hunter and his dog out lost and starving. Finally the hunter cuts off the dog`s tail and eats the meat, throws the dog the bone and then they are both happy.
