I follow you on the widgets and gadgets and gizmos. But... (theres often a but) it has been shown that some humans don't understand when enough gadgets have been consumed and its time to stop.
And Im not morally opposed to gadgets but have seen the destruction they can cause.
I happen to think 1000' is too much but my opinion doens't matter to either party in this disagreement.
