Subject: Hiring someone smarter than yourself

Pittsburg, Kansas
If he hires a competent manager, more competent than he himself is, and let's the manager lead with good decisions, might be the best decision the owner ever makes. If......The latter part a BIG if.

Many owners are not that good at self evaluation and if they were would already be managing the business better.

I knew a college dropout that was as close to a genius of anyone I've known. He wrote software and at one time 40 some years ago Ford Motor Company used his hardware and software CAD system till AutoCAD and the likes came along and CAD kinda became a commodity software business. Had an office in silicon valley.

He joked he didn't need a PHD. He could hire all of them he needed. And he did. A smart CEO hires people smarter than himself. A poor CEO is afraid to hire people smarter than him.

Native intelligence can be very useful and at least some is needed. But business as well as personal success is not measured in pure native intelligence capabilities. I've met very successful people who I thought were not the brightest light bulb in the room. But they had other positive attributes like tenacity, work ethic, ect. that offset their shortcomings. People that became far more successful than anyone would have expected. If they get in the right business and can hire above their own abilities, they can go far.
