Pittsburg, Kansas | 6 is pre diabetic.
I would have my fasting insulin checked. Should be in single digits. The medical community is solely focused on fasting blood sugar and A1c. But fasting insulin levels will give a forewarning ten to twenty years ahead that you are heading towards diabetes. The insulin test gives plenty of warning that trouble is ahead so you can make lifestyle changes and prevent having type II diabetes.
Of course most of the medical community thinks diabetes is mostly a genetic disease and is progressive with no cure or prevention. They are wrong (in my opinion). I am one of many thousands that have shown it to be very reversible with lifestyle changes.
Yes, there definitely is a genetic component. Think of it that genes load the gun but lifestyle pulls the trigger. Even a loaded gun doesn't fire if the trigger isn't pulled.
This is information from a high school educated dirt farmer, so take it for what it is worth.
See my post under Buster below.
Some doctors will argue you don't need an insulin level test. Sometimes insurance will not pay for it if you're not diabetic. Find a new doctor. Pay for it out of pocket if needed. Not expensive, especially if you're getting your regular annual blood work done anyway. Just another test they add on to the already blood drawn.
