Hastings, Florida | Seems like a lot of interest in this story, so, an update. At County Commissioners meeting , a unanimous vote of 5 to zero to overturn the zoning board's decision to allow beer sales next door to church. Most Commissioners visited the site, I am told to view it. The permit was denied. Several church members are life long friends of mine, and they simply felt it was wrong , considering the existing law Also the fact the pizza place had no parking lot, had to park in street taking up church places, which will be need as the 1 and a half million dollar new youth building is completed. At times the church's lot was used by restaurant patrons, which is on side of church away from restaurant. I checked , every other local county has similar distance rules, including Jacksonville. Perhaps, if in the beginning, they say, had been approached before the permit was applied for ( they learned of it by the required legal sign being placed in front of eatery ), a solution could have been found. I was told the one meeting with the restaurant owner found him somewhat un-cooperative. Not sure what happens next. |
