Ft. Ripley MN | Hard to quantify if the government has improved your bottom line when you don’t take government payments… maybe slowly but I’ve been able to improve my balance sheet year after year.
I understand why guys take the payments and insurance whether it’s by choice or there banker said they have to. My biggest gripe is it’s created to much of a safety net… it’s like gambling… you should only farm what you can afford to lose.
I’m not saying everyone is like this I honestly believe most people are good or at least I try but there is way to many scenarios where people farm for the payments.. I’ve heard it in discussions.. it’s been discussed on here. You can guarantee yourself a profit… that’s fine but it should be self funded or at least the tax payer portion kept out of it. Yes I know some folks it’s a lifeline which at times may be needed. I just feel there is to much of a safety net between the folks who can pay there inputs to the ones who pull a profit from insurance and subsidies… we need the risk put back into farming. You will never get profit built back into the system until folks start saying no… when you complain yet plant every year nothing changes….
I just find it comical everyone says it’s a problem but no one will actually stomach the pain to make it happen… no different than the general public. Why do you think we are onto socialism headed to communism!? No one will stand up | |
