Used to work at the coop and they sold a 4 step lawn fertilizer program. People at it up because the lawn was green. I did the math once and if they put down all 4 steps at the recommended rate there was almost enough nitrogen to raise a corn crop.
So what's the problem? The grass is using it like the corn does.
Problem is not all of it is getting used, some areas around here nitrates run 20+ PPM in ground water.
