NW Indiana | Fetv a while back posted a link that showed all the government assistance to each operator by county. Some operations were over 5 million plus they have other entities. I was shocked to see several wives names. I looked over the 2 counties I farm in and made me start wondering is the balance even equivalent to what most of these guys net worth is had the money just been invested in the S&P along the way? My conclusion was no so what does that say about all the handouts? What does that say about farming in general? Granted taxes were paid along the way vs compounded in a retirement account but still it was eye opening. | |
