N.E. MO | I run a pair of Fibre-Metal 110P hoods, one with an auto-darkening lens, and one with a Phillips glass, shade 11, passive lens.
I can’t stand a hood with a big lens. These are 2 X 4. Currently have a Lincoln lens in one of these, but have had many different ones, and none really stand out. Mainly use the auto hood for fitting and tacking stuff up. Prefer the passive lens when it’s time to start welding.
I’ve had many, many fancy welding hoods over the years. Miller has far and away been the worst of them. Have a high end Lincoln that I like a lot, aside from the big lens. Speedglas is probably the top of the line for hoods like that, and I’ve had a couple of them. But at the end of the day, I always gravitate back to the old “sugar scoop” hood with the lens of my choosing. | |
