Highland Center, in Southeast Iowa

Alpha-gal syndrome (AGS)—a potentially severe meat allergy triggered by tick bites—is experiencing an explosive rise across the United States.

The staggering ~100-fold (or roughly 10,000%) increase in Alpha-gal syndrome (AGS) positive test results is largely driven by surging Lone Star tick populations expanding out of the southeastern U.S. into the Midwest and Northeast. Larger deer populations, and better medical awareness have accelerated this growth.
Coinciding with the push to replace real meat with cultured meat products, fungi, and vegetables.

Get your deet or Picaridin on and spray your brushy areas, I guess.

A good friend suffered with AGS for quite some time....to the point that she could only eat chicken or fish, and Perdue brand was the only chicken she could eat due to it being organic. In some instances, even the smell of beef or pork cooking would trigger an anaphylactic reaction. The longest she went w/o having to use an Epipen was 8 days.  She found a specialist in MO who used a form of acupuncture to treat the syndrome, and she is eating like a normal beef producer now.
