Well there is supposed to be a chart showing the top 10% of earners account for 50% of the spending.

In other words, how long can this “K shaped economy “ continue?




Seems like the first question to ask is how long has it been that way.

Next is how do they track consumer spending?

If the answers are “a long time” and “at the point of initial sale”, the stat may not be that shocking. Take cars for example, if the top 10% of earners buy new cars regularly and the other 90% rarely buy new and instead favor good used cars, you could easily have a scenario where the top 10% do 50% of the spending and the system could easily be sustainable for a very long time.

So in short, we need more information than a clickbait headline type stat.
