So let's say that the govt doesn't allow a Merger between two companies because of market consolidation. What keeps the remaining companies from just driving the "weakest" one out of business and taking over their share anyway after they're bankrupt?
That is exactly what happens. It’s happening now in production ag. Prices are so low farmers are watching their mailboxes to hep them.
Antitrust laws don’t touch overproduction and driving prices down.
