NW Wisconsin | Put in the work with the cows and there is plenty of money to be made... No different than row crop ag. Corn and soybeans are easy and its become too easy. Want to make money? Get the cows and do real work. I spend more time with one calf and getting it tagged once then I do taking care of 30 steers in a week.
Not trying to be arrogant either... Just a fact of life. Eliminate the labor and the risk disappears and profit potential goes down.
If you think that is bad calves are 2200$ a peice. That doesnt pencil vs 6 weights at 2400$.
But with my rough math 6 weights put on 1000 lbs for 1$ a pound gets you to 3400$ invested lets say 1600 lb holsteins at 2.30 is 3680. 280$ a head on a half acre of corn pays a hell of a lot better than 1 acre of corn and selling it to an elevator for a loss. | |
