You're correct that the govt shouldn't need to intervene. But when American companies (really it was the stockholders that forced the Smithfield deal) want to sell out for the almighty dollar the govt should do its job and put American interests first. And yes sometimes that will result in stepping on the toes of some individuals that don't give a crap about the rest of the country.
