| See that spike in 2016? That's the fracking bust. Oil was in the 40's there for a little while. Oil production slowed and prices increased, but gas prices also started increasing. Trump asked the Saudi's to increase production to lower gas prices, which they did, which lead to even more bankruptcies already in 2019 after the industry had more or less stabilized. Following the oil price shocks in 2020=2021, companies were slow to start drilling again, which lead to the high gas prices in the 2022-23 time frame.
