While this is good, There is a difference between a Null Modem and a gender changer/reverser. There are plenty of instances where you only need the gender changer and do not want to switch pins like a null modem does.
There are lots of combinations involving 9 pin connectors and cables when dealing with GPS. There could certainly be situations where for example, a 9 pin Male to Male extension was used. Then a gender changer only would likely be appropriate.
In general, I found that my rule of thumb worked out well. Like many rules of thumb it does not apply in every conceivable situation. |
