Subject: RE: Wedding budget

Valley, NE
back in 2009.......... my folks gave us $1000, and my wife's folks bought her $800 dress. My wife had this big grand idea of a wedding (she is the free spirit and I'm the nerd). She wanted to rent out the old union Stockyards at the tune of $50k+ and i was ready to mow an acre of the pasture and fence the cows off it for a couple days. We compromised and had a nice venue (Champions Club in Lincoln, NE by memorial stadium) on a bye week in Lincoln. We floated 8 kegs for my German family and her Irish family to the tune of about $25-28k. It was a lot to us at the time and still was the biggest wedding on both sides of our families ever. More than anything, we lived without a ton of the fancy stuff for flowers, dresses, no limo, and the venue catered menu was pretty plain, pulled pork and chicken and cheesy tators and a ton of beer, but it was more about bringing as much of our family and friends together as we could, and there was just shy of 400 of us.

I still think 17 years later it was way dollars more than necessary, but we paid for almost all of it. Like any big ticket/ budget item, ask them what the list of importance is. For us it was as many people as we could afford to feed and cold Busch Light. Everything just came together.
