How close to town is it?  or how far out of town is it?  

Does the closest town have a community center?  Is there a need for a community center?  

Maybe think about what the needs of the town are, and can this building help to meet these needs? 

If there are pews in the sanctuary, you may need to remove the pews and do some changes to make it usable for community needs.  This might require using portable chairs for the occasional funeral that will occur.
