By the way: the last man to see Lincoln died in 1973( I think). He was a twelve-year old boy. His father was part of the commission charged with maintaining the crypt. A conspiracy theory had run amuck for years that Lincoln was not inside. So, to quell conspiracies, it was decided to bore a whole directly above where it was judged that his head was inside. This man was in school. His father gave him specific instructions that if a courier was to come to the school asking for him, that he was to leave class immediately & run to the mausoleum as fast as he could go-which happened. I number of adult men had a gander, but before they sealed the bier, this man’s father insisted that the son have a chance to look for himself. His father had to boost him up so as to reach the bung whole. He described what he saw. He was interviewed by either LIFE or LOOK magazine, explaining what he saw. He died not long after the interview. I had a copy of the magazine, but not sure that I still do | |
