Without any brackets the equation you wrote is implied that you want to multiple 17*25.
Take that result and add 17 to it.
This is very very simple math.
In English we read right to left correct? We read sentences from top to bottom in a paragraph right? There are rules so we all can communicate more easily.
In math we have rules also, so everyone can do the same math.
We do things in brackets first right?
Then we do any multiplication or division second right?
Then we do any addition or subtraction last right?
Proper math rules? This is so we can all do the same math.
Back when you were in school the answer was -not- 850. Your teacher would have a ruler to the knuckles for that! :)
