Thanks for posting that. Added it to my list of something new I learned today.
Not very many Harvestores around this area and the ones that are around yet might not be active (used) at this time.
I had a conventional silo (stave, top unload) catch fire about 30 years ago. It burned for several months but was never any danger. I had to put up signs to let people know we had it under control.
Neighbor had a Harvestore catch fire about 25 years ago. It had haylage inside, but they had not used it for years due to a broken unloader. I believe they had left the door open and eventually the silage got the right combination of air and heat to ignite itself. Neighbor called me and I went to look at it. Advised him to close the door and let it burn itself out. I believe the fire went out in several days due to lack of oxygen. The silo is still standing today. |
