To me the equation should be bracketed so you know which way it should be worked
17 + (17 x 25) = 442
(17 + 17) x 25= 850
The highest math I had was a year of algebra in college and a couple years of algebra in high school so I'm a long was from an expert, but this seems the simplest way to avoid confusion.
