Subject: RE: Work Comp

Southern Missouri
I’ve put it on here before, middle of my career, owned some businesses that required it , in Missouri, farm doesn’t have to carry it , employees overlapped a little so started taking it on the farm . Workmen’s compensation auditors came in and did throughly audit us . On the farm we had some fairly large contractors that didn’t carry workmen’s comp, mainly our cropduster, lots of irrigated cotton required lots of aerial crop dusting. The workmen’s compensation auditors told me I was going to be charged workmen’s compensation on the amount of payment I made to these contractors. It hit the fan , I immediately dropped workmen’s compensation on my farm employees and told them I was not paying workmen’s comp premiums on those contractors, they did everything but actually drag me into court for the next two years , the threats I got from their lawyers was pretty wild , my credit source all came from one spot , PCA , they really liked to threaten me with ruining my credit score ,I laughed at that and not sure those lawyers every really understood that , they tried for lower settlement, I never paid a dime and they eventually gave up . Be very aware that can happen if your farm employs contractors not carrying workmen’s comp and your farm does . Google will show you some examples of the type case I went through. Big liability policies on and large medical coverage figures on your farm policy is probably a must if not carrying workmen’s comp ,but those policies aren’t that expensive.
