Just looking at a map here.... have you looked at I86? Take I90 to north of Erie, PA, then pick up I86. I don't know anything about it, but it seems logical on a map. Other thought... Pick up US 422 in Ohio. Take it to Ebensburg, PA. There pick up US 22, and take it to I99. I99 will take you to I80, which it seems is still going to put you into construction.... You could take US 22 to Mt Union, and pick up US 522 from there.... not sure that is the best either.... Honestly, just looking at a map, I'd investigate I86 route. I did run Rte 22/ 422 from Holidaysburg to Butler,PA last summer. Not bad road... did run thru some smaller towns. But it seems like the long way around to get to Rhode Island. IMO
