| My son carried it on his employees but not himself or his wife. 3 years ago she got her leg caught in a sweep auger. Luckily she didn’t lose it but was tore up pretty bad & was off work for almost a year. Work insurance wouldn’t pay on it. They were able to prove to work and comp adjuster that she contributed to the farm through preparing meals for employees& bringing them to the field & working on the farm running equipment & help making management decisions. Adjuster recommended adding her to the payroll & including himself in case of future accidents. Not sure what her medical expenses were but they were pretty high. To make matters worse she lost her job because of length of off time & was denied unemployment.
FWIW, he carries a very high farm liability & umbrella policies. If this an insurance agent making these recommendations then I’d be looking for a new agent
