Subject: Reason for underglow lights being illegal?

Chebanse, IL.....

I call the lights that people (mostly kids?) put under their cars/trucks "underglow". They are sometimes colored lights or sometimes just white lights. Recently a young man I know told me he was stopped by local police and warned not to have the lights turned on....it was against the law. I assume he meant at night. Young man was not stopped for any other reason.

Though I sometimes look at the lights under a vehicle when they pass and ask "why", I don't feel they affect driving the vehicle or blinding other people in any way. There is no glaring light like some headlights. It's just a "glow", as they call them. Actually, to me, they help make the vehicle more visible at night which is a good thing.

Why are they illegal?
