Subject: RE: Wedding budget

SE Washington
I got married a little over a decade ago, parents gave us some money but we're frugal to start with. I think we were under 5k. We stole the venue, found out we could rent a university visitor center building for next to nothing compared to fancy wedding venues and was plenty nice. Bought the food a friend cooked. Had coolers of beer and drinks. After party friends rented out a local bar that was their present. Sky is the limit. Most of my friends have had reasonable weddings but I've been to some blowouts, usually comes down to the parents background. I had plenty of fun at each. I would sit down and have a conversation, tell them you would like to help obviously you're not an oil tycoon. Have them go look at some stuff and see what they can get it done for and if you can swing it do it. It is area dependent but I would say you can make a wedding as cheap or as expensive as you want. Will be a good lesson in budgeting.
