North Central Iowa | As far as the NTRIP app, yes, the phone is on all the time. I don't think the app has to be the one currently open, meaning you could use the phone for something else while its streaming corrections in the background. As far as calls coming in, that was a bigger problem on 3G networks. With 4G LTE and 5G, should be less of an issue and is (was?) probably network dependent. Since looking to run on CORS network, you'll almost for sure use the NTRIP client from Lance Lefebure on an Android device:

I believe it has a setting to keep the phone awake, if necessary. I think the idea was that some phones would sleep the screen and then stop the bluetooth streaming. I don't recall having that particular issue.
It doesn't take much data to stream RTK connections, but since the phone is constantly on and actively running it can run through the battery. So I always just plugged mine in to charge while in the tractor (cigarette to USB adapter) if I was going to be running all day.
If still more comfortable with the 500 to just make life easier, don't be afraid to just stick with that plan; I had 4 of them at one time. It works fine 99%+ of the time. Just when it doesn't, just be patient and the RTK Fixed will come back in short order (as steering will quit when you loose RTK fixed). Compared to hand steering, I loved the EZ Guide 500 and ran it for something like 10 years. Spraying, planting, tillage. Never used for steering combine, had the system but by the time I was thinking seriously about installing it decided to replace the combine.
Someone else posted on the remote, I'm assuming asking about the 6 button remote that mimics the 6 buttons on the ez guide 500. Pretty sure that doesn't work with the cfx-750 as that is touchscreen. The same joystick for the 500 works with the 750 (maybe cable change) but is actually a bit more limited. But does engage/disengage, use for nudging, and has some other programmable functions. | |
