Subject: RE: Setting Up EZ-Guide 500 For RTK Help

North Central Iowa
One may still be able to get EZ Guide 500 unlock codes, but it will be over $4,000 if you are starting from a WAAS only EZ Guide 500. So not worth it. Generally, a RTK unlocked ezguide 500 can be had for low $2,000. A Trimble 252 already unlocked to RTK should also work fine, don't have to unlock the ez guide 500. In theory, the signal should be no worse than the ez guide 500 unlocked for RTK. The issue with either is they are US gps satellites only, so at certain times can be limited on # of satellites seen. Don't know if a 262 or 372 can work with an ez guide 500, only the Trimble 252 and 332 are listed in the old manuals. The Case and NH branded 252s should also work. When running RTK with the Iowa CORs (or any base station), the only satellites that count is the number of the same satellites that both locations can see at the same time. I ran RTK unlocked EZ Guide 500s routinely until a couple years ago, didn't have too much trouble but every once in while would be a problem. Sometimes for 10 seconds, sometimes for 5-10 minutes. Don't have many tree lines either, so that helps as well. Closer you are to a CORS location, the better as well. I'm right between 2, so generally 7-10 miles away from nearest CORS base at all times so that didn't help. On Iowa CORS, will want to use CMR Nearest, single baseline correction stream.

No help on a modem as an option, probably do exist. Just needs to have a serial port out connection and have a built in NTRIP client. I always used a Paranni SD-1000(??) bluetooth to serial adapter and ran the NTRIP app from a cheap android phone and/or tablet that I left in the tractor in season. Got mobile service from StraightTalk on the Verizon network.

I have 2 of these systems still (others I've traded for new Ag Leader screens and GPS systems). 1 my father-in-law has on long term loan. The other is in my JD4960 in case needed as a backup. If you run out of luck finding a RTK unlocked ez guide 500 (you also need the Z+ or AG25 antenna) or 252, can reach back out to me and see what could work out. I actually have a pretty complete system nominally sitting around; RTK ez guide 500, ez-steer, ez-boom, Paranni bluetooth adapter, Trimble remote "joystick", and all the cables. Ideally, might want to sell as a complete system instead of piecing out.
