If you need it at night, a thermal would be necessary unless you mount some intense spotlights on a Matrice or something.
Otherwise you can play with the exposure and look through the canopy pretty decently. I can get it to see cracks in the soil through tasseled corn with my mini 3 pro for example. I use it to check gravity irrigation and make sure it's going through each row
