Subject: Knock yourself out..

The more corn answer isn’t working out. Let’s stop government subsidies and let this marginal land go back to pastures. Hopefully land prices will drop.

Wouldn’t be good for giant agri businesses, hard to sell $300 per acre of inputs per year for pasture. Would work out well for young farmers and ranchers with a strong back and a can do attitude.

As farmers we should be raising healthy food not spraying more chemicals so we can burn more corn.

I just got another government check for my row crops, would have been zero $$$ if the land was pastured. A misguided policy pushed through by giant companies trying to extract every $$$ out of the American farmers.

If consumers want ethanol they can already buy it, we should stop cramming it down their throats.

It’s a free country.. get some cows.. put up a fence.. have at it.  We’re seeing that occur here.

I disagree that ethanol is driving marginal expansion.. see last years crop.. it flew under the radar.. as the next generation.. who doesn’t fill out government surveys.. made their market choices.  The largest corn grower here.. doesn’t even use Govt subsidized crop insurance.. doesn’t believe in it.. waste of his time and money.. would rather buy more ground.

Land prices are going up because investors are seeking REAL ASSETS including gold.. vs fiat paper like US dollar denominated treasuries.

Shore up the currency.. and you’ll cool inflation driven land appreciation.

edit add.. ps there are still some 25 million acres in the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) which the government is paying to idle.. a person could put a fence around that and graze it.. (with some work.. if they can pry it away from the hunters..).  Maybe that whole program needs to be looked at.. too many trees here.. growing in CRP.. impacting the water table.. which hunters are not addressing..

hmmm.
