I’ve read about an Indiana farmer that has experimented quite a bit with intercropping. What I usually get from reading about his trials is that it’s a lot easier to do these trials when you or your family are already wealthy and your failures don’t risk your future.

No wealth here, Payments suck and it better not be a failure!

Wheat/Double Crop or Wheat/Relay Crop have been most productive acres lots of years.

Most of our ground needs wheat in the rotation. I like wheat for a cover crop over rye. Also add in the options to graze, chop or wet bale for the cattle and it brings a lot to the table.

Just don't like early July double crop beans. Too risky. Thus the desire, and investment, to Relay crop.
